UMMC makes celebrated list of top employers

Medical Center faculty and staff often are recognized regionally, nationally and internationally for their academic or medical achievements. These accolades place UMMC among health science centers worldwide.

The University of Mississippi Medical Center is included in this year’s prestigious ranking of America’s Best Large Employers 2026 from the American business magazine, Forbes.

UMMC, one of the largest employers in Mississippi, has more than 13,000 full- and part-time employees. The state’s only academic medical center, it enrolls more than 2,500 students in six health sciences schools.

It was one of 56 U.S. hospitals and health systems to make this year’s list, as reported by Becker’s Hospital Review.

Now in its eleventh year, the America’s Best Employers ranking celebrates organizations across the nation that have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to fostering environments where employees can thrive.

The ranking is based on independent survey responses from over 217,000 U.S. employees working at companies with a workforce of at least 1,000 people.

Respondents were asked whether they would recommend their current employer, rating it by such standards as wages, work-life balance, leadership training and opportunities for growth.

Forbes, in partnership with market research firm Statista, ranked a total of 700 organizations classified as Large Employers.
