In 1999, a new building for the School of Health Related Professions was completed on the UMMC campus; the old building was renovated for faculty and staff offices. That same year, the school’s physical therapy program transitioned to a master’s level degree. A quarter-century earlier, in 1973, physical therapy had become the school’s first bachelor’s program, a change that came two years after the Mississippi State Institutions of Higher Learning had approved the establishment of the school – originally called the School of Allied Health. SHRP has now awarded more than 6,000 degrees, including those in PT, occupational therapy, health administration, health informatics and information management, radiologic sciences and many more.
