One of the friendly, reassuring voices parents and referring physicians hear when calling to schedule pediatric surgery or follow-up visits belongs to Bailey Stanford.

A newcomer to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Stanford joined the pediatric surgery scheduling team in July. Her workday includes helping about 50 to 80 callers by getting them the appointments and information they need.

“Bailey always comes in with a smile on her face and ready to work,” said Amellia Aycock, a coworker in pediatric scheduling. “Her ability to be patient with callers is something I hope people notice and see in me.”

The pediatric surgery scheduling team works with referring physicians and families to schedule patients for surgery and follow-up care from Children’s of Mississippi. Her department serves patients of the Children’s Cancer Center as well as those who need general surgery, plastic surgery or surgical care in the areas of neurology, cardiology and urology.

“I absolutely love my job,” said Stanford, “and I love working with parents. They are in a stressful situation, knowing their child will need surgery, so I want to help them get their appointment scheduled and make them feel more at ease when visiting the Medical Center. It’s not an easy job, but I love it.”

Working at UMMC is a family business for Stanford, whose father-in-law Brice Dawkins is a registered nurse in the adult cardiac intensive care unit and mother-in-law Kandis Dawkins is a Children’s of Mississippi respiratory therapist.

“I knew they love working at UMMC, so when I saw this job opening shared on Facebook, I applied and got an interview,” Stanford said. “Before I got home from the interview, I got a call offering me the job. I’m proud to work here at the Medical Center.”

Stanford has quickly become a valued member of the pediatric scheduling team. “Although she is relatively new, she goes out of her way to help those of us who have started after her,” said Aycock. “She truly cares about the patients we schedule for.”

Every institution is rich with personal stories. We want to know ours.

Do you know a student, staff, volunteer or faculty member at the University of Mississippi Medical Center whose story would make an interesting feature or deserves to be recognized?

Know someone who you think more people should know about because of his or her commitment to his or her job and/or the people he or she works with or for? Who has a fascinating hobby? Who participates in a remarkable group? Who has accomplished something amazing?

We want to learn more about each individual who makes up our extraordinary UMMC Family, and we want to share what makes each person unique and special in the Front and Center section of our dynamic new UMMC Intranet.

To nominate someone to be considered for a Front and Center feature, just complete and submit this short form. If that person is picked for a feature, a member of the Communications and Marketing staff will contact him or her to learn more about his or her personal story.

Soon, the rest of the Medical Center will know why your nominee is an outstanding reminder of what makes this place so special – the Front and Center.
