A bright red “Lightning McQueen” and a Dodge pick-up have revved up patient care in Batson Children’s Hospital surgical care and in UMMC’s Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. The kid-sized cars, donated by Walmart and Sam’s Club, allow patients, on surgical floors, to drive themselves to the operating room, reducing the need for sedation. In the BMT Unit, patients, who stay in the unit as part of treatment, get to cruise the hospital hallways, accelerating morale.
