Dobbs attracts national recognition
Medical Center faculty and staff often are recognized regionally, nationally and internationally for their academic or medical achievements. These accolades place UMMC among health science centers worldwide.
Population Health dean tapped by prominent scientific body

Dr. Thomas Dobbs, dean of the John D. Bower School of Population Health at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, has accepted an invitation from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine to serve as a member of the Roundtable on Population Health Improvement.
The Roundtable brings together members and outside experts, practitioners, community leaders, researchers and decision-makers to explore the factors that affect the public’s health and to identify resources for population health improvement across the U.S.
Dobbs, who will serve as a member for three years, is also the Endowed Chair for the Study of Health Disparities at UMMC. He teaches epidemiology for the School of Population Health and the School of Health-Related Professions and holds a clinical position within the Division of Infectious Diseases.
“The National Academies of Science is our nation's preeminent body for advising the country on scientific issues of public importance,” Dobbs said.
“I’m honored to serve in this role and to have the opportunity to translate these efforts into health improvements for the State of Mississippi.”
