An organization dedicated to assisting patients receiving organ transplants at the University of Mississippi Medical Center will hold a major fundraiser with a Kentucky Derby theme May 1 at a Jackson area horse farm.
The University Transplant Guild, a nonprofit volunteer organization, was formed in November 2009 to assist transplant patients and their families who have unmet needs. The group got a boost in February with a $5,000 donation from Trustmark Bank.
UMMC operates the state's only heart and kidney transplant programs.
"Day at the Derby" will be held Saturday, May 1, 4-7 p.m. at Providence Hill Farm, to coincide with the running of the Kentucky Derby. The farm is located at 2600 Carsley Road, Jackson. Tickets are $50 per person. For more information or to obtain tickets, visit the website here.
