WHAT: An annual, nationwide rite of passage will play out when senior medical students found out where they will go for their residencies by opening letters containing their match locations and sharing the results with family, friends and faculty during the Match Day 2010 ceremony.
WHEN: Thursday, March 18 at 10:30 a.m.
WHERE: Belhaven College Center for the Arts, 935 Riverside Dr., Jackson MS
WHY: The match process, a coordinated event at medical schools around the country, uses a computer algorithm to align the preferences of applicants with the preferences of residency programs to fill the training positions available at teaching hospitals. The match was established in 1952 at the request of medical students to provide a fair and impartial transition from medical school to residency.
