More than 130 future doctors were at Thalia Mara Hall in Jackson on Friday for the annual School of Medicine rite of passage known as Residency Match Day. The fourth-year medical students divulged to family, friends and faculty their next destinations as physicians-in-training.

Evan Ciarloni needlessly drops $5 into a doctor's bag. According to Match Day tradition, the medical student whose name is the last to be called during the ceremony is entitled to the bag. Each of Ciarloni's classmates deposited $5 into the bag as their names were called: Ciarloni was the final student to announce his match: primary care internal medicine at George Washington University.

Before the matches are announced, third-year medical students Alex Mullen, winner of the International Association of Memory World Memory Championship, and his wife, Cathy Chen, sum up their fourth-year friends' years in medical school. Mullen and Chen, originally members of the Class of 2018, each took a year off from medical school to focus on their non-profit venture, which translates high-level memory techniques to everyday learners. "We'll never forget you guys," Mullen says.

Stephen Stone, accompanied by his wife, Marianna, tells hundreds of attendees at Thalia Mara Hall that he has matched in medicine-pediatrics at UMMC.

Charles Pritchard and Adria Luk join each other at the microphone to reveal their respective matches in Birmingham, Alabama: Pritchard for a transitional year at Brookwood Baptist Health followed by diagnostic radiology at the University of Alabama-Birmingham; Luk in pediatrics at UAB.

Michael Thompson, with his wife, Haley, learns he has matched in family medicine at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Colton Lee, holds his Match Day announcement while having his photo taken with his childhood friend, Gabriella Welch. Lee matched in preliminary surgery at UMMC.
