Mother’s dream of a nursing career inspires endowed nursing scholarship at UMMC

The estate of Hugh Carroll Smith, a Brookhaven native and a professor emeritus in biology at Louisiana State University in Alexandria, endowed the Ernestine Price Smith Scholarship for registered nurses in the School of Nursing’s RN-to-BSN program. The gift will fund three $5,000 scholarships, easing the financial burden of continuing education for registered nurses seeking a bachelor’s degree. Read More

Brian Christman is keeping his talents at UMMC. Come fall, he will begin working on a PhD in biostatistics and data science in his journey to becoming a professor/researcher.

Nursing Alumna of Year serving ‘nation’s heroes’ as VA leader

Dr. Amy Smith, who earned a BSN and MSN at UMMC, is the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs director of clinical operations for specialty care and recipient of the Nursing Alumna of the Year Award. Also Presly Lowry, nursing instructor, received the Early Career Achievement Award during the annual School of Nursing Alumni Awards luncheon.
