Holmes County Hospital has acquired an advanced Computer Tomography (CT) Scanner that provides patients with more up-to-date imaging to detect medical conditions ranging from strokes to head injuries.
Instead of Holmes County residents traveling to Jackson to undergo a high-tech scan, they can now remain at HCH to have the same procedure.
"The 16-slice scanner produces images in a fraction of the time the former single slice scanner. The shorter scan time allows for reduced patient movement, which in turn increases the patient's image quality and decreases the patient's radiation exposure," said Eddie Holman, HCH radiology supervisor.
The technology is the same used at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. University radiologists are now able to see the same scan technique for the patients in Holmes County as compared to scans in Jackson. Holman said the equipment allows for more accurate diagnosis and quicker turnaround of reports.
The CT Scanner is used to evaluate a broad range of conditions, including cervical spine injuries, lung masses, pneumonia, and abdominal pain.
