June 25, 2025
TO: UMMC Faculty, Staff and Students
FROM: Dr. LouAnn Woodward, Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs and Dean, School of Medicine
SUBJECT: Appointment of Chair of Radiology
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Robert W. Morris as chair of the Department of Radiology, effective January 1, 2026.
Dr. Morris has served on the UMMC faculty since 2016, currently holding the position of associate professor in the Division of Musculoskeletal Imaging. He brings nearly two decades of clinical, academic and administrative leadership to the role, currently serving as vice chair of clinical operations and MRI medical director.
A graduate of the UMMC School of Medicine, Dr. Morris completed his diagnostic radiology residency and musculoskeletal radiology fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He also recently earned a Master of Business Administration from Auburn University.
Dr. Morris is board certified by the American Board of Radiology and holds certifications in MRI safety, radiology quality improvement and artificial intelligence applications in imaging. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Radiology.
He has received several teaching and professional awards, including Department of Radiology Faculty Lecturer of the Year and induction into UMMC’s Academy for Excellence in Education. He is a nationally recognized expert in musculoskeletal imaging and radiology operations and has served in leadership roles with the Society of Skeletal Radiology, Mississippi Radiological Society and Southern Radiological Conference.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Morris as he assumes this new role and thanking Dr. Rich Duszak for his leadership as chair since July 2022. The department has experienced success under Dr. Duszak including national recognition for the residency program. He and the entire department should be commended for the progress that has been made in patient access to their services.
