Acquisition of Merit Health Madison
January 29, 2025
TO: UMMC Faculty, Staff and Students
FROM: Dr. Alan Jones, Associate Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs
SUBJECT: Acquisition of Merit Health Madison
Today, a purchase agreement with a subsidiary of Franklin, TN-based Community Health Systems, Inc. was signed that will make UMMC full owner of Merit Health Madison, located in Madison County off Nissan Parkway. Upon finalization of the transaction, the hospital will be renamed UMMC Madison.
Through a collaboration with Merit Health Madison, UMMC specialists have been able to perform procedures at the hospital since 2019.
This opportunity will enhance our three-part mission of health care, education and research and will extend opportunities for our caregivers, who are supported by the state’s most comprehensive and advanced health system, to serve more communities and patients.
When finalized, our residents and health professions students will be able to learn from faculty and staff about health care delivery in both a large health system and another community hospital, joining UMMC Grenada and UMMC Holmes County.
We will share more information after the transaction has been finalized, which is anticipated to be approximately 90 days.
Thank you.
