Subject:Flu Vaccinations Start This Month

Fall is approaching and with it comes an increase in flu infection rates. The best way to protect yourself and others and ensure a healthy workforce through flu season is for each of us to receive our vaccination.

In keeping with our longstanding policy, an annual flu vaccination is required for all faculty, staff and students unless an accommodation or exemption is requested and approved. The deadline to receive a flu vaccination, either by a UMMC or non-UMMC provider, is Nov. 15 for students and Dec. 15 for employees. The Medical Center’s mandatory influenza vaccination policy can be found here. Failure to adhere to the policy could result in corrective action up to and including termination or dismissal.

Students and employees have the first opportunity to receive a flu vaccination from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the interprofessional education campus Welcome and Well-being Block Party at the Student Union.

UMMC Student and Employee Health will provide targeted “Flu on Wheels” locations, posted here on the intranet and updated regularly. Flu Blitzes will take place on Oct. 15, Nov. 10 and Dec. 14. Also, flu vaccinations are available from 7:30 a.m.- 4:15 p.m. each weekday in N137, the SEH main clinic. To make a flu vaccination appointment, call 4-1185 or email flu@umc.edu.

You may obtain your flu vaccination through a non-UMMC provider. If you get your flu shot somewhere other than UMMC, you must submit a copy of the Vaccine Administration Record to be compliant with the policy. Instructions on how to submit this record, can be found here.

Information about how to submit a request for medical or religious accommodation to not receive a flu vaccination can be found here.

For questions, contact Student and Employee Health at 4-1185 or flu@umc.edu.
