The most common exposures in Mississippi include:
- 50% of potentially toxic exposures involve pharmaceutical products. These include a combination of children getting into a family member’s medications, drug overdoses, adverse drug reactions and drug allergies.
- 22% of exposure cases involved household products, including cleaning products, drain cleaners and other household chemicals.
- Pesticides and industrial chemicals each accounted for about 6% of exposures.
- Bites from snakes and spiders and insect stings accounted for 3.3% of exposure cases.
