Student life at SOPH: Building community beyond the classroom
The John D. Bower School of Population Health continues to foster connection, belonging and balance through student centered events that bring faculty and students together in meaningful ways. This fall, three gatherings offered opportunities to celebrate culture, creativity, and camaraderie outside of academic settings.

The event provided a relaxed, non academic space to build relationships, celebrate teamwork, and recharge. From first time golfers to seasoned players, the night emphasized the importance of community and well being alongside rigorous academic training. |

Students and faculty shared dishes representing cultures from across the globe, including Nigeria, Bangladesh, China, South Louisiana, and beyond. The evening highlighted the many backgrounds and lived experiences that enrich population health learning at SOPH and reinforced how culture, food, and shared stories strengthen understanding and connection. |

Students and faculty gathered to enjoy hot cocoa while making seasonal crafts and handwritten holiday cards. Many of the cards were created for families served by the EversCare Food Pantry, allowing participants to combine relaxation with service and kindness during the holiday season. |
Together, these events reflect SOPH’s commitment to supporting students not only as scholars, but as whole people, connected to one another and to the communities they will serve.
