Captain William Waples
William Waples began his public safety career with the Jackson Police Department in 2000. He was soon promoted to property crimes as a burglary detective, and later, lead detective in the major investigation division, a position he held until being named captain at the Jackson campus of Hinds Community College Police Department
He then became lead investigator for the Jackson Public School District campus enforcement department, where he was a certified school resource officer and threat assessor. He left JPS to join the force at UMMC in 2019, where he worked as a patrolman before being promoted to sergeant and later captain.
Waples earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Hinds, and a bachelor’s in social services and master’s in public administration, both from Belhaven University.
He lives in Byram.
