Explosives K9 Unit

In the Fall of 2023, UMMC Police and Public Safety Department introduced their first Explosives K9 Unit, Law, a trained explosives detection canine.  Law can be found alongside his handler, Officer Christie Shoemaker as they patrol the UMMC Campus.

Meet Law: The First of His Kind

Law holds the prestigious title of being UMMC PD’s first-ever K9 unit, specializing solely in the identification of explosive materials. This specificity allows him to hone his skills to perfection, providing an unparalleled level of accuracy in identifying potential threats. Law and Officer Shoemaker attend routine training to keep their skills sharp and ready for when they are called to action. This duo works seamlessly together, forming a strong team dedicated to the safety and well-being of UMMC's staff, patients, and visitors.

Our Commitment to Safety

The UMMC Police Department's Explosives K9 Unit is a testament to our unwavering commitment to safety and security. In addition to protecting UMMC Campus, Officer Shoemaker and Law also assist surrounding agencies with calls which require an Explosive Detection K9.  With Law and Officer Christie Shoemaker at the forefront, UMMC PD stands ready to address any potential threats swiftly and efficiently, ensuring a secure environment for all.
