Communications Center
- Handles more than 22K calls for service each year
- Staffed by state certified dispatchers
- Services Provided:
- Emergency Dispatch for all on campus locations (Fire and Medical)
- Emergency Dispatch Assistance for off campus clinics by routing calls to appropriate agency with jurisdiction
- Dispatching of any other emergency Alerts & calls received from MedCom/surrounding agencies
- Safety patrols
- Traffic Assistance
- Assist other LEAs when needed (coordination of prisoner security/transfer, warrants/holds, etc.)
- Monitoring of CCTV and other security technology
- Assist UMMC medical staff when needed with emergency/non-emergency police dispatching/questions
- Employee/Vendor verification when needed
- After-hours Dispatch provides the same services in addition to:
- Employee escort services after shuttle services are no longer running
- After-hours safety patrols (lots, garages & buildings)
- UMMC PD Dispatchers receive continuing education each year to maintain the most up-to-date information and practices. Training courses contain a combination of the following, although this is not a comprehensive list:
- Public Safety Telecommunications
- Law Enforcement Communications
- Crisis Negotiations for Telecommunicators
- Human Trafficking for Dispatchers
- Domestic Violence
- Active Shooter and Workplace Violence
- Officer Involved Shooting and Critical Incidents
- Bomb Threats
- Legal Concepts in 911
- As of October, 2024, the UMMC PD Dispatch Center has relocated to the Mississippi Center for Emergency Services. All other aspects of dispatch function have remained the same.
