The 30X30 Police Initiative

Chief Paradis speaking at the 2023 conference.
Chief Mary Eileen Paradis

As of 2021, women make up only 12% of sworn officers and 3% of police leadership in the U.S. We are proud to be a member of the 30x30 initiative to increase the number of women recruits to 30% by 2030 and support women officers throughout their careers. The 30x30 Pledge is a series of no or low-cost actions policing agencies can take to improve the representation and experiences of women in sown positions in all ranks.

UMMC is the only agency in the state of Mississippi to sign the 30x30 Pledge. Visit the 30x30 Initiative website to learn more.

On March 16 & 17, 2023, the UMMC Police and Public Safety Department hosted a spring seminar on the topic of Recruiting and Retaining the Next Generation of Law Enforcement Officers, in partnership with the National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives (NAWLEE) and the 30X30 Initiative. This event included key leaders from across the state, as well as lectures from Maureen McGough, founder of the 30x30 Initiative, and Kym Craven, Executive Director of NAWLEE.
