Mississippi Linking Solutions to Violence: Community, Hospital, and Health Care Collaboration, September 24, 2026

Greetings, Community and Colleagues,

The Mississippi Center for Violence Research team invites you to our fourth annual violence summit, Linking Solutions to Violence: United Against Gun Violence.

The event will be held September 24, 2026, at the Jackson Convention Complex in Jackson, MS, beginning at 9:30 a.m. CT this year.

Please note the time change, as the agenda will begin promptly. Doors will open at 9 a.m. CT. Parking is available directly in the lots across from and behind the building.

This one-day event aims to bring together healthcare professionals, community stakeholders, and citizens from the Jackson Metropolitan Area to build partnerships, foster dialogue, raise awareness, and collect valuable feedback to make informed decisions leading to reduced firearm, domestic violence and related violence.

Vendors should indicate in occupation if you are an exhibitor, and please bring a door prize for raffling instead of exhibit fees.

Mississippi Center for Violence Research Speaker Series: Awareness Today for a Safer Tomorrow, October 28, 2026

You are cordially invited to attend the quarterly speaker series, Mississippi Center for Violence Research Series: Awareness Today for a Safer Tomorrow.

  • Location: Virtual via Webex

  • Description: This series is an opportunity to learn about the multifaceted approaches to violence and prevention.

    As a multi-disciplinary community, we will address how violence is preventable, education is powerful, and change is possible as the hospital and community are stronger and safer when we work together.

    Join us for one hour to discuss how violence has many roots, yet many solutions, and how you can play an important role in prevention.

Portrait of Katherine TheallOur guest speaker is Dr. Katherine Theall from Tulane University. As a social epidemiologist, Dr. Theall's research focuses on reducing health inequities by understanding and altering built and social neighborhood environments and social policies for better health in vulnerable populations locally, nationally, and internationally, and researching innovative methodologies to do so. She is actively involved in interventions and policies aimed at altering environments for better health in vulnerable populations. Dr. Theall has received funding from the CDC, NIH, HRSA, and private foundations such as the Robert Wood Johnson and W.K. Kellogg foundations. She has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers and presented numerous scientific talks in her area of research. As director of an academic center with a strong base in community-partnered participatory research aimed at addressing social determinants of women's and children’s health and the processes that shape these determinants, she continues to find ways to disseminate her team’s work and turn it into action.
