‘My Favorite Doctor:’ Nine-year-old loves going to the dentist

Nine-year-old Marsha Jones is unique in her love for visiting the dentist. Even after having terrible pain that led to eight baby teeth being pulled during the course of a few months, Jones said she loves everything about going to see Dr. Susmitha Koti, chief pediatric dentistry resident in the pediatric dentistry clinic.

Doctors perform medical 'first' during facial tumor surgery

Oral maxillofacial surgeon Dr. Ignacio Velasco Martinez and representatives from the nerve regeneration and repair company Axogen say they have completed a first in medical literature: successfully reconnecting the two cut ends of a nerve in patient Violet Thompson’s face with an allograft. The procedure was done during a surgery to remove a benign but disfiguring tumor.

SOD alumni board names former MDA president Alumnus of the Year

Friends and colleagues of Dr. Roddy Scarbrough, who has risen to the highest ranks of organized dentistry, describe him as down to earth, humble and incredibly dedicated to the profession. Scarbrough, who has devoted much of his life to making sure dentists’ voices are heard, is the most recent recipient of the Dental Alumnus of the Year Award.
