News and Accolades

Dental students at all levels of their training are involved in a variety of research activities.

SOD offers both internal and external opportunities for student research accomplishments to be recognized. 

2019 School of Dentistry Quintessence Award for Research

Caleb Hardman received the School of Dentistry Quintessence Award for Research at the SOD Awards Day on May 7, 2019, presented to a senior dental student who has attained high achievements in research.

Hardman received this honor for his many combined achievements during his time in the DMD program.

2019 American Association for Dental Research Award

Sarah Malley (D3) - "Pulse Repetitions Effect on Temperature Through a Y-TZP Ceramic"

The American Association for Dental Research Award is presented to the D1-D3 student with the finest presentation at the annual SOD Research Day. The student will represent the school at the annual AADR conference.

2019 DENTSPLYSirona Student Clinician Research Award

William Boteler Key (D2) - "Fracture Toughness and Fractal Analysis of Ceramic Benchmark Materials"

The AADR/DENTSPLYSirona Student Clinician Research Award is given to one student each year for outstanding accomplishment and achievement in research and recipient will attend the annual AADR/DENTSPLYSirona SCADA Award Program and Reception. The honoree is also awarded a plaque on Awards Day.

2019 Hinman Student Research Award

Emily Turbeville (D2) - "Attitudes of Mississippi Licensed Dentists Toward Dental Therapy Model"

The Hinman Student Research Symposium is a national meeting that features oral and poster presentations of research studies by dental students and graduate trainees from dental schools across North America. One student representative from each dental school across the nation is chosen to attend the meeting, held every year at the historic Peabody Hotel in Memphis, TN.

2019 OKU Research Award of Excellence

Sarah Malley (D3) - "Pulse Repetitions Effect on Temperature Through a Y-TZP Ceramic"

The Omicron Kappa Upsilon Research Award of Excellence is presented to the D1-D3 student with the finest presentation at the annual SOD Research Day. It comes with a $250 cash prize.
