Care Planning and Restorative Sciences
The Department of Care Planning and Restorative Sciences encompasses the areas of operative dentistry, diagnostic sciences and oral medicine as well as the specialties of prosthodontics and oral-maxillofacial radiology. The mission of the department is to integrate these areas into a strong didactic, preclinical and clinical experience for our students with the goal of helping them become knowledgeable and competent general practitioners. The department strives to make all classroom, laboratory and clinical experiences relevant to this goal.
The University of Mississippi School of Dentistry offers an on-site full-service dental laboratory benefiting School of Dentistry patients and our students.
Our state-of-the-art laboratory is staffed with highly skilled technicians that have a combined experience for over 70 years, including 2 certified dental technicians. They provide guidance to the students on their patient cases, as well as fabricate high end fixed and removable prostheses for their patients. The lab also provides services such as crowns, bridges, implants, complete and partial dentures, splints, implant retained prostheses and full mouth restorations.
Equipped with today's current technology, such as CAD/CAM and five axis mills, an Ivobase denture injections system and Cerec system, the clinical laboratory is able to meet modern dentistry demands.
Oral-maxillofacial radiology clinic
The University of Mississippi School of Dentistry offers a dental radiology clinic providing service for Mississippi dentists, specialists, and School of Dentistry patients in the residency, student and faculty practice programs.
Our clinic provides digital radiography of routine dental imaging, panoramic images, cephalometric images, Cone Beam CT images, and other radiographic images. The faculty and staff of the radiology clinic have a combined experience of over 90 years, including one nationally and internationally recognized Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist. This clinic provides guidance and training to the students on their patient cases, as well as, diagnostic interpretation of dental images. This clinic will also provide any of these dental imaging services needed to Mississippi dentists and specialists.
Dr. Rohan Jagtap is a Director of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and Assistant Professor in the Department of Care Planning and Restorative Sciences with dual appointment in the Department of Radiology School of Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He is the author or co-author of multiple articles in peer-reviewed publications and more than 30 scientific presentations on national and international platforms. Dr. Jagtap has been invited as a guest speaker to several national and international conferences. He has editorial board and reviewer positions for multiple high-impact peer-reviewed journals. He is recognized as a national leader in the field of Dentistry and Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology. Dr. Jagtap has served on multiple committees and member of American Dental Association, International Association for Dental Research, American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, American Dental Education Association, among other professional organizations. He is a fellow of national and international honorary organizations such as Pierre Fauchard Academy, Academy of Dentistry International, and American College of Dentists. He is a current Chair of the American Dental Education Association Radiology Section and Vice-President of International Association for Dental Research Diagnostic Group. Dr. Jagtap currently serves as the only Oral & Maxillofacial Radiologist at UMMC and within the state of Mississippi.
