The UMMC School of Dentistry is proud to honor the faculty and leadership who have made a difference in the lives of students, patients and communities in Mississippi. We have established four new funds as a meaningful way to give thanks for these selfless servant leaders by donating to projects at the School of Dentistry that mean the most to them.

- "There are so many good students that we want to recruit, but so do other schools. The top students are accepted at multiple schools. They want to come here, but some of the other schools are offering scholarships we can't. We need to keep those students. We need the best students we can admit so that we will have the kind of future dentists our alumni would want at their practice."
- Dr. John Smith was a member of the School of Dentistry's first graduating class, and went on to join the faculty as a clinical instructor in dental hygiene then as an assistant professor in Care Planning and Restorative Sciences in addition to working in private practice. He is currently a second-level dean in Care Planning and Restorative Sciences.

- "In order to graduate, our students have certain procedures that they must complete, and they must be confident in them. We have patients who come to us because they have challenges finding a provider in their area, or have special dental needs. Having a fund to offset costs for patients is a great thing. Any time we can reduce those barriers so that we can help patients and any time we can take away a barrier for our students, it will be a benefit. This will be a win-win situation."
- Dr. Tracy Dellinger completed a general dentistry residency and a dental research fellowship at the School of Dentistry before joining as full-time faculty with the dental residency program in 1999. Dr. Dellinger has taught and mentored dental and dental hygiene students for over 20 years and has served as the chair for the Department of Care Planning and Restorative Sciences.

- "We need your help in increasing the number of underrepresented students and disadvantaged students. There are great people who live in this state, want to serve this state and are committed to staying in state. We need our students to stay here. We want everyone in Mississippi to have access to health care, and we want to recruit to build health care professionals who will go back and serve those communities."
- Dr. Leon Anderson joined the School of Dentistry as a resident in 1986, and has served as faculty in Care and Restorative Planning; director of the Division of Multicultural Affairs; admissions committee member for the schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, and Health Related Professions; and as chief of dental services at the G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery Veterans Affairs Medical Center, among other roles.

- "Fourth-year students will pick a faculty member who has influenced them over their four years at the School of Dentistry to reward them and thank them for their encouragement in their study of dentistry. There will be a honoree every year. The teachers that work the hardest need to be encouraged. They are going out of their way to do more, and to make the experience and education at the dental school the best that it can be."
- Dr. Jeffrey Brown, Dr. Stephen Gandy, Dr. George May and Dr. Daniel Quon are faculty members in the Department of Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery and Pathology. They have chosen to combine their support for the fund, which will result in an annual honor going to a full-time faculty member chosen by the D4 dental class as the most impactful teacher over the course of the DMD program.
