International Services Responsibilities
- Request and obtain an H-1B prevailing wage determination. Prevailing wage determinations are obtained from the National Prevailing Wage Center in Washington, D.C., a division of the U.S. Department of Labor. The minimum turnaround on these requests is approximately 90 days; therefore, sponsoring departments should keep this in mind when considering employment dates for H-1B employees.
- Submit a Labor Condition Application (LCA) to the Department of Labor for certification. This step cannot take place until a prevailing wage determination is received. Turnaround on an LCA request should not take more than seven (7) working days.
- Complete the H-1B Petition (Form I-129), utilizing the information and documentation provided by the sponsoring department.
- Prepare the H-1B petition package and submit it to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
