Application Process for the M.S. in Biomedical Sciences

Classes begin in early August. Admission for spring semester is not available.

Applications for admission to the next academic year open in February, e.g. applications for admission to the 2019-2020 academic year open in February 2019. Admission occurs on a rolling basis beginning April 1 and continuing until the class is filled. Therefore, students are encouraged to complete and submit their applications as early as possible.

The deadline for complete application submission is June 1.

Visit the Program Pre-requisites page for specific admissions criteria. Materials needed for a complete application are as follows:

  • Standardized test score(s) - Official GRE, MCAT, and/or DAT test scores
  • Transcript(s) - An official transcript(s) documenting a B.S. or B.A. degree
    • Students may apply prior to receiving their bachelor's degree. In those cases, a partial transcript reflecting previous undergraduate classwork should be submitted. Based on that, conditional admission may be granted. However, full admission will not be conferred until the complete undergraduate transcript is received.
  • Personal statement - A one-page original composition that highlights your strengths as an applicant, motivation for this program, leadership and service record, etc.
  • Letter of reference - from a faculty member familiar with you and your academic achievements should be submitted with your application.
    • If you have been formally recommended for this program by an admissions officer in either the UMMC School of Dentistry or School of Medicine, a letter (or e-mail) from them supporting your application meets this requirement. Emails of this nature should be sent to Dr. Hanna Broome.
