Volunteer Opportunity: 1-Year Clinical Research Assistant in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery

The Jabaley-Songcharoen Center for Hand, Upper Extremity, and Nerve Surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) is seeking a dedicated volunteer for a 1-year clinical research assistant in hand and upper extremity surgery.
This is a unique opportunity for candidates looking to gain extensive education and research experience to enhance their applications for residency, fellowship, and/or a career in academic plastic or orthopaedic hand surgery. Interested applicants must have a desire for and capability of leading and participating in multiple concurrent research projects.
Position: Clinical Research Assistant
Duration: 1 Year (Beginning July 1, 2025)
Role Overview:
As a clinical research assistant, you will engage with a team of experienced surgeons, residents, clinical fellows, and medical students on a range of hand surgery and related research projects. You will gain hands-on experience in various aspects of clinical research, including:
- Study inception and research design
- IRB submission process
- Presenting research findings
- Manuscript preparation and submission
Ideal Candidate:
- A medical student or recent post-graduate interested in applying to plastic surgery or orthopaedic surgery, a resident looking to strengthen their research portfolio, or the like.
- Strong interest in clinical research and ability to effectively collaborate as part of a research team.
- Basic understanding of statistics and research methodology is expected.
- Meet the Educational and Research Visitor requirements.
