Dr. Casadevall, a distinguished microbiologist and immunologist, is a member of the National Academy of Sciences. His laboratory research focuses on fungal and bacterial pathogenesis and the development of antibody-based therapies for infectious diseases. Dr. Casadevall has received several prestigious awards, including the National Institutes of Health Merit Award and the American Society for Microbiology Founders Distinguished Service Award.

Dr. Knight is professor and chair of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. She is also co-founder and co-director of the Infectious Disease and Immunology Institute at Loyola University. Dr. Knight was president of The American Association of Immunologists from 1996 to 1997 and served on the AAI Council from 1991 to 1998. She was awarded the AAI Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013 and was elected a Distinguished Fellow of AAI in 2019.

The Torres lab is pursuing studies to understand the pathogenic process of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) and other pathogenic E. coli strains, and the interaction of these pathogens with the intestinal mucosa, with most of these studies combining genetic approaches and animal model testing.
