While rest is important for critically ill patients, family member visitation improves patient outcomes. For that reason, critical care visiting hours are set but not limited to the following:
Visitors to all critical care units must be over 14 years old. All visits are limited to two people at the bedside. However, they may come and go except in the incidence of procedures or other necessary patient interventions.
One family member is permitted to stay in the waiting room overnight and must have a 24-hour visitor's pass. These passes are given out by the nursing staff after the last visitation of the day and contain the date, patient's name, unit, and room number. Due to limited space, only one pass per family is available.
Pastoral visits are allowed at any time and are only limited if special patient procedures are taking place. Family members who are ministers are asked to abide by the family visitation policy.
Visitation hours for the bone marrow transplant unit are open per patient request, with only one family member allowed to stay overnight.
