Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia can be fulfilling and simultaneously quite challenging. Often individuals are thrown into this role with no training and at times with minimal support.
Caregiver University (CGU) is a multiple-session training program for family caregivers, focused on a variety of topics surrounding care delivery and support for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. The modules are designed to provide an additional layer of practical knowledge as well as understanding and empathy for the person living with memory loss and cognitive impairment.
Who Should Apply
Individuals who are currently providing in-home care to a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia, or those who anticipate providing care to a loved one in the foreseeable future, are eligible to attend CGU and are encouraged to apply. There is no charge to attend CGU and all classes are taught by community experts from organizations in Mississippi who provide care and support services to individuals living with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Time Commitment
CGU Participants are asked to commit to two-weeks of virtual education training. Participants meet virtually using the Zoom meeting platform. The typical schedule for each semester is one daily session from 10 a.m.-noon and three sessions that are scheduled from 1-2:30 p.m. during the two-week program. The additional sessions are conducted through “On-Demand” pre-recorded videos and suggested viewing times are provided.

How to Apply
Applicants must complete and submit a program application to the CGU Program Coordinator and will be notified about the status of their application and acceptance into the program by email or phone. CGU is offered quarterly, and space is limited. The deadline to apply for CGU is 4 weeks prior to the start of the next quarterly program.
