Opioid Stewardship Committee
The UMMC Opioid Task Force, established in 2018, took a global look at institution-wide efforts on issues related to opioid prescribing and pain management. Its goal was to give providers the tools to take an even-handed approach to opioid prescribing, but at the same time deliver individualized care for every patient.
In 2023, the Opioid Task Force transitioned to the Opioid Stewardship Committee.
About the Committee
The work of the committee is ongoing. Much of its work goes hand-in-hand with recommendations on opioid prescribing and monitoring issued by the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure.
The committee's mission includes:
- To work collaboratively as a multidisciplinary team to highlight current resources that can be shared across the institution and make recommendations for those areas that need improvement or development.
- To educate our providers and learners about the new opioid prescribing guidelines and regulation changes by the MSBML
- To encourage individualized patient-centered care with balanced and responsible opioid prescribing.
