We are creating a healthier Mississippi

Greetings and welcome to the website of the University of Mississippi Medical Center!

Whether you are a student interested in a health professions career, a patient making decisions about health care for yourself or your family, a prospective new member of our faculty or staff, a potential business partner or one of thousands of other people who interact with us on a daily basis, I hope this site provides the information you are seeking.

We often describe ourselves as Mississippi’s only academic medical center. That’s because we have three, interrelated missions. First, education: We teach the next generation of the state’s health care providers and scientists. Next, research: We daily work to discover new treatments and cures and how to translate them to practice. And our largest mission area, patient care: We provide the most advanced care in the state, and in some instances, services that can be found nowhere but UMMC. Each of these missions informs and enhances the others. That powerful dynamic sets us apart from other hospitals, educational institutions and research organizations. We are proud to serve in these roles.

We operate in all corners of the state, with telehealth sites, clinical preceptors, hospitals and clinics from the Gulf Coast to Corinth to the Delta. You can get a visual representation of our presence across Mississippi through the maps found here.

We are made up of roughly 10,000 dedicated employees and 3,000 hard-working students who all share one goal that unites us: To create A Healthier Mississippi. Thank you for your interest and support.

Sincerely,
LouAnn Woodward, MD
Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs
and Dean, School of Medicine
