Welcome to the John D. Bower School of Population Health at the University of Mississippi Medical Center! Our engaged and diverse academic community is committed to rigorous scientific inquiry, knowledge translation for community benefit, and helping students realize their full potential as scholars and health professionals.
Population health is a growing interdisciplinary field that seeks to elucidate the multiple determinants of health and to comprehensively address why some groups are healthier than others. This field of science draws on expertise from basic, clinical, behavioral, economic, social and public health sciences to pursue the transformation of traditional and community health systems and improve the health of individuals and populations.
The school was launched in 2016 and is one of seven schools at UMMC. We are the third school of population health in the nation and the only one in the Southeast region of the United States. During this academic year, we inaugurated five graduate programs in the Departments of Data Science and Biostatistics, Population Health Science and Population Health Management. Please visit our website for additional information about all of our programs, admissions requirements, and our interdisciplinary faculty.
Our core and extended graduate faculty are dedicated professionals who excel in connecting with students and providing outstanding educational experiences equal to that of any university. At the Bower School of Population Health, students not only experience classic and contemporary materials in the classroom, but also have opportunities to apply lessons learned in real world settings.
We are always looking for ways to improve student, faculty and staff experiences in the School of Population Health community. We have launched an electronic suggestion box where you can submit your ideas or concerns to the Dean’s Office. You have the ability to make submission anonymously, and we look forward to hearing your comments and suggestions. You can access the suggestion box by visiting the Dean's Idea Box. Please know that I am committed to reading each submission, and thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts.
Thank you for taking a few minutes to consider and view our offerings in the John D. Bower School of Population Health. We are “motivated by science, inspired by communities.”
