Seven decades of nursing excellence
Mississippi's first nursing school, the University of Mississippi School of Nursing has prepared thousands of nurses for the workforce and provided the state with its most preeminent nursing leaders. In addition to this legacy of excellence, UMMC nursing students receive an unprecedented educational experience on an academic health science campus. On the UMMC campus, students participate in clinical learning experiences in four major hospitals - Children's of Mississippi, University Hospital, Wallace Conerly Critical Care Hospital and Wiser Hospital for Women and Infants. UMMC also has the state's only Level 1 trauma center, as well as the state's only children's hospital. Here you will gain not only the best nursing education in the state, but also a truly unique learning environment and unlimited resources - all at your fingertips!
The School of Nursing has a reputation for offering rigorous graduate and undergraduate nursing education. UMMC students not only participate in hands-on, multidisciplinary clinical training, but also receive classroom instruction that effectively prepares them for successful careers as RNs in a variety of health-care settings. Upon completion of the program, students graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX ®), which grants the registered nurse license.
Certification and Licensure
The University of Mississippi School of Nursing's Traditional BSN program, a program leading to licensure, satisfies the requirements set forth by the governing body in the State of Mississippi. Completion of the Traditional BSN program also qualifies graduates to take the NCLEX-RN/National Council of State Boards of Nursing Examination. Please be advised that requirements for nursing licensure vary from state to state. The Traditional BSN program has not made a determination on whether the degree meets the licensing requirements of states, territories or entities outside of Mississippi. If you are located (presently living) outside of the state of Mississippi and are interested in the program, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org immediately and UMMC will make every effort to make a determination of whether it meets licensure requirements for the state in which you are located.Additionally, Mississippi is a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) state. The Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) is an agreement between states that allows nurses to have one license but the ability to practice in other states that are part of the agreement. However, be advised that ultimately reciprocity of a Mississippi nursing or advanced practice nursing license is determined by individual states and entities. For more information related to how nursing reciprocity works, please visit www.ncsbn.org.
