UMMC-GTEC Application Information

Who should apply

  • Students who meet eligibility criteria
  • Students enrolled in doctoral programs in the social sciences, health sciences, or STEM-related fields
  • Students enrolled in health professional programs
  • Students interested in biomedical research
  • Residents and fellows enrolled in health-related Master's degree programs

Eligibility criteria

  • Doctoral and health professional students enrolled AND in good standing at one of the following institutions: Jackson State University (JSU), Mississippi State University (MSU), University of Mississippi (UM), University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), or University of Southern Mississippi (USM)
  • An individual from a group identified by the National Institutes of Health as an underrepresented minority in the biomedical, clinical, behavioral, and social sciences (See NIH Notice NOT-OD-20-031)
  • A citizen of the United States OR a permanent U.S. resident

The 2023-2025 Robert Smith, MD Graduate Scholars application form will open on January 1, 2023. The deadline to submit the application and recommendation forms is April 1, 2023.

Summer Institute

The UMMC-GTEC Summer Institute I for the 2022-2024 Robert Smith, MD Graduate Scholars is scheduled for July 7-10, 2022, at the UMMC Conference Center (Jackson Medical Mall) in Jackson, MS.
