Why Choose Our Program

The University of Mississippi Medical Center offers a pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship that combines exceptional clinical training with meaningful patient relationships. As Mississippi's only academic children's hospital and pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship program, UMMC serves as the state's primary referral center for children with cancer and blood disorders. Fellows care for a diverse patient population with both common and rare hematologic and oncologic conditions, including one of the nation's largest pediatric sickle cell disease programs. This breadth of pathology provides outstanding preparation for careers in both academic medicine and clinical practice.

Fellows benefit from high clinical volume, longitudinal continuity of care, and close mentorship from dedicated faculty in a collaborative, supportive learning environment. The program's size allows fellows to develop increasing autonomy while working within multidisciplinary teams committed to delivering compassionate, family-centered care.

Outside the hospital, Jackson offers an affordable, family-friendly lifestyle with a low cost of living, short commutes and easy access to restaurants, outdoor recreation and cultural attractions. At UMMC, you'll receive outstanding clinical training, build lasting relationships with patients and mentors, and make a meaningful impact on the health of children across Mississippi—all while enjoying an exceptional quality of life.
