At UMMC, its impact, now and for the future, has been acknowledged with the creation of the Division of Medical Genetics and Precision Medicine under the direction of Dr. Joe Maher.

Study seeks to understand RURAL residents' health challenges
UMMC has joined 15 other universities in a six-year, $21.4 million study aimed at understanding why people in rural areas of the southern U.S. have a higher risk of heart, lung, blood and sleep disorders. Sponsored by the NIH, the study will eventually recruit participants from two northern Mississippi counties.
