About Gastroenterology

Gastroenterology is a medical specialty focusing on diseases and disorders of the digestive system, including the esophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas, small intestine, colon, and rectum. Gastroenterology is also called gastrointestinal, or GI, care.

About UMMC Gastro

  • Our team of board-certified gastroenterologists, nursing, and support staff provide comprehensive preventive and diagnostic care and management for gastrointestinal, liver, and nutritional disorders.
  • We offer a clinical care center for comprehensive hepatitis evaluation and treatment.
  • As part of the UMMC nutritional support team, our GI specialists work with pharmacists, nutritionists, and other staff to care for the nutritional needs of our hospitalized patients.
  • Patients from across the U.S and other countries travel to our state-of-the-art endoscopy lab to receive assessment and treatment for gastroenterological and hepatological disorders.
  • The UMMC Division of Digestive Diseases is one of five sites in the nation invited to participate in the National Institute of Health's Gastroparesis Clinical Research Consortium Registry. The division enthusiastically sponsors and cooperates with research efforts throughout UMMC, as well as with other state, regional, and national medical centers.
