Feed the Children Resource Rally supports Jackson families with food, essentials and community care

For children to grow, learn and thrive, they need consistent access to nourishing food. Yet many families across the country continue to face challenges in meeting that basic need. Household finances, family circumstances and geography can all affect access to healthy food and other essentials families need to maintain stable and food-secure households for their children.

On May 13, the EversCare Food Pantry helped host a Feed the Children Resource Rally in Jackson, bringing food, household essentials and community support directly to local families.

Feed the Children’s U.S. programs are designed to work with communities to meet immediate needs while supporting long-term solutions for families who experience food insecurity. Through its Resource Rallies, Feed the Children delivers supplies directly to communities where local partners and volunteers help distribute them to families who need them most.

The Jackson rally, part of the 15-city, coast-to-coast SERVING WITH LOVE® Tour, supported by the Popeyes Foundation, served 400 area families. Each family received a 25-pound box of food, a 15-pound box of household and personal care items and additional supplies and community resources. The partnership will provide supplemental food and essentials to an additional 400 families per community within 100 days following each tour stop, helping extend support into the summer months when food insecurity often increases. By the end of the tour, this effort will support 250,000 meals for 12,000 families across the selected 15 cities.

“At the Popeyes Foundation, providing a seat at the table – a soul-warming, don’t-go-hungry kind of love—is at the heart of our brand,” said Renee Hobbs, executive director of the Popeyes Foundation. “That’s why partnering with Feed the Children to provide food and essentials to communities across the country is so important to us. Our SERVING WITH LOVE® Tour was created to help improve access to food and essentials while raising awareness of food insecurity. Together with the Popeyes brand and our franchisees, we are SERVING WITH LOVE® to help children grow and thrive.”

The event was made possible through a strong network of partners and volunteers, including Jackson Popeyes® franchisees, The Popeyes Foundation, Feed the Children, Mississippi Food Network, the City of Jackson, Stewpot Community Services and the EversCare Clinic.

The day was about more than distributing supplies. Music, laughter and volunteer energy helped create an atmosphere of celebration and care. Cars moved through the rally with honking horns, smiles and waves, offering a powerful reminder of what community looks like when people come together with purpose.

For MEWI, the Resource Rally reflected the institute’s commitment to addressing the social and structural factors that shape health. Access to food, household essentials and trusted community support plays an important role in helping families build healthier lives.

Together, MEWI and its partners are helping meet immediate needs while supporting stronger, healthier communities – one family at a time.
