As we move into the close of 2025, I am proud to share another edition of MEWI in Motion that reflects the heart of our work at the Myrlie Evers-Williams Institute for the Elimination of Health Disparities.
Every day, MEWI works to meet the needs of families across Mississippi through initiatives like the EversCare Clinic, the EversCare Food Pantry and our equity-focused research and outreach programs.
MEWI has launched a new Faculty Affiliate Program designed to strengthen statewide collaboration, expand community-engaged research and accelerate progress toward health equity in Mississippi.
MEWI proudly hosted the 2025 Marian Wright Edelman Distinguished Lectureship, featuring Rev. Dr. Starsky Wilson, president and CEO of the Children’s Defense Fund and the CDF Action Council.
MEWI is thrilled to shine a light on one of our newest team members, Tori Robinson, who serves as our first Population Health Specialist.
MEWI is proud to highlight the dedicated nursing students from the UMMC School of Nursing who serve at the EversCare Clinic.
The EversCare Food Pantry continues to serve as a critical lifeline for patients and families who are struggling with food insecurity. This fall has brought an especially challenging period.
Health literacy is the ability to find, understand and use health information. It plays a key role in preventing disease, managing chronic conditions and making informed decisions.
MEWI’s Community Advisory Board continued to play a critical role in shaping equity-centered research by fostering dialogue between researchers and community stakeholders across Mississippi.
