I am currently an M.D./Ph.D. candidate in the department of Physiology and Biophysics. For my thesis research, I am investigating the role of the electrogenic sodium/bicarbonate co-transporter (NBCe1) in kidney and heart. Dr. Mark Parker, principal investigator.

Week long, immersive, short course covering aspects of classic experimental nephrology. Directed by Dr. Mark Zeidel.

Brockport Zebrafish Laboratory

Brockport, NY

Independent research conducted during my undergraduate education. We investigated the role of the calcium-activated chloride channel, Anoctamin-1, in gastrointestinal transit regulation utilizing Zebrafish as a model system. Dr. Adam Rich, principal investigator.

Mayo Clinic Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow

Rochester, MN

I completed two ten-week summer research fellowships at the Mayo Clinic. My project involved validating and modifying a cyanide-nitroprusside assay for clinical use in monitoring patient’s predisposed/diagnosed with cystinuria. Dr. John Lieske, principal investigator.

Activities and Volunteer Work

MD/PhD steering committee – student ambassador

JSMBS, Buffalo, NY

Represented MD/PhD student body in a student/faculty committee, with input on curriculum design, academic affairs, funding, and social programs regarding the UB MD/PhD program. Worked with faculty to design and implement a longitudinal clinical preceptorship for MD/PhD students in their graduate years.
