About Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation is a broad area of medical care that helps patients regain or improve functions and skills lost due to illness or injury. In addition to specialized doctors, rehabilitation teams also consist of various therapists, nurses, and other specially-trained health professionals.

Depending on the type and severity of a lost motor skill or bodily function, a patient may need physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language therapy, neurologic therapy, or a combination of therapies. Our rehabilitation teams help patients recover as much of their full capabilities as possible after medical events ranging from a broken bone to a stroke or major physical trauma.

The UMMC Difference

UMMC provides comprehensive rehabilitation to help patients reach the best of their abilities to lead independent, fulfilling lives. We offer expert assessment and innovative treatment to those whose lives have been affected by physical, cognitive, and developmental problems.

We work together with the patient and family to set and reach goals that are important to them.

Our staff shares a commitment to patient care and a dedication to education and research. Our therapists hold a variety of specialty certifications, including lymphedema certification and board certifications in sports, geriatrics, orthopaedics, pediatrics, and neurology.
