Full Liquid Diet

A full liquid diet includes only liquids and foods that are liquid at room temperature. When on this diet, you can eat or drink only items that are liquid.

If your surgeon recommends this diet it is because your mouth, neck, or throat muscles are not ready to swallow solid textures. It is important to only eat or drink the items listed below to avoid complications with your healing or swallow safety.

Below are items recommended on a Full Liquid diet:

  • Water
  • Fruit juices and nectars
  • Milk (All types)
  • Plain ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sherbet
  • Fruit ices and popsicles
  • Milkshakes (must be blended smooth)
  • Broth or strained creamy soups
  • Vegetable juices
  • Sodas
  • Gelatin (Jell-O)
  • Boost, Ensure, Resource, and other liquid supplements
  • Tea or coffee (can have cream, milk, sugar and honey)

Do not eat any foods that require chewing (including soft foods). Liquid foods do not include mashed foods, such as mashed potatoes. Do not eat those textures.
