Samantha Reeves 2024
Samantha Reeves
Education Administrator,
Student Affairs

Samantha Reeves joined the UMMC School of Nursing in February 2023 as the education administrator for student affairs. In this role, she plans and coordinates both academic and social events for students throughout the year.

Before coming to UMMC, she worked at the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services as a Supportive Employment Counselor. Reeves worked with individuals with disabilities to help them gain and maintain employment within their community and worked closely with the Rankin County School District Project Search program housed here on the UMMC campus. When she began at the SON, she introduced the Project Search program to the SON, and they became a worksite to host Project Search interns throughout the school year.

Reeves graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2018 with her bachelor's in social work. She was accepted into the one-year advanced standing social work program at the University of Alabama where she graduated with her masters in 2020. While attending the University of Alabama, she was one of 10 students selected to fly to D.C. to speak to legislators about the importance of social work safety in the community and advocate for social change.

When asked what her favorite part of working at the SON is, Reeves stated she enjoys getting to know the students and helping them navigate through nursing school. With her background in social work, she not only cares about the students academically but also cares about their life outside of the walls of nursing school. She makes sure to provide a safe space for students to be able to come in and out to talk about what is on their minds.

A native of Monticello, Mississippi, Reeves married her high school sweetheart, Ryan, in 2020 and they now reside in Pearl, MS with their two dogs—Maverick and Avery. When you speak with her it is very common for her to mention her two furry friends. Maverick is their one-eyed Pomeranian, who was rescued from an abusive home in 2017. Avery is their Labrador retriever who enjoys fetching up a tennis ball or golf ball. Her hobbies include spending time with her husband and dogs, operating her small jewelry business and listening to a true crime podcast or audiobook.
