Dr. Farrah Banks Evans, assistant professor and director of student life, passed the Certified Student Affairs Educator exam and is now certified in Campus Activities by the Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA). The new certification is part of a pilot program from NASPA who is dedicated to placing students in the center of everything they do from advocacy for equity and inclusion to nurturing pipelines to mentor, rejuvenate and support students. Congratulations to Dr. Banks Evans and we are proud of your service and dedication to our students!


Simulation Team selected for podium presentation

Dr. Robyn MacSorley, assistant professor and director of clinical skills and simulation labs, and Dr. Alaina Herrington, part-time assistant professor and director of the Judith Gore Gearhart Clinical Skills Center in the SOM, were selected as podium presenters at the 2023 International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) conference in June. Their presentation entitled "Manage the pain, escape the silo' was selected and they will later present at the conference in Providence, RI. Kudos to you both for being selected!

Last month, Dr. Derek Holt, assistant professor and director of family nurse practitioner track; Dr. Marilyn Harrington, associate professor and assistant dean for diversity, equity and inclusion; and Dr. Audwin Fletcher, professor and associate dean for graduate programs, published an article in the Association of Black Nursing Faculty Foundation (ABNFF) Journal. The article titled "Recruitment, Retention and Matriculation of Underrepresented Nursing Students: Update," highlights the history of underrepresented students and the efforts of growth in diversity, equity, and inclusion at the SON. The December issue of the ABNFF Journal focused on addressing inequities in education and practice. Congratulations to you all and thank you for your striving forces for our underrepresented students!
