A member of the MSU baseball team, he was Southeastern Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Year in 1998. After playing professional baseball in the Kansas City Royals and New York Mets organizations, he attended medical school at UMMC, where he graduated summa cum laude in 2006. He received the Waller S. Leathers Award for graduating with the highest academic average in his class. Dr. Jackson completed an Internal Medicine residency at UMMC. He then served as chief resident (2009-10) before completing a dermatology residency at the University of Alabama in 2013, where he served as chief resident his final year. Dr. Jackson cares for many of the most acutely ill dermatology patients at UMMC. In addition, he has specialty clinics focusing on cutaneous lymphoma, connective tissue disease, psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa, and bullous diseases.

My Approach to Healthcare

I enjoy dermatology because of the variety of skin conditions that I encounter. I get to take care of patients from newborns to the elderly and must be prepared for the unexpected each day. I chose academic dermatology because my passion is in taking care of complex dermatologic conditions. Every day I see the impact of these skin conditions on my patients’ quality of life, and I consider it a privilege to walk the course of diagnoses and management of these conditions with my patients. Building relationships and educating my patients are my biggest strengths, and I think they empower my patients to make the best decisions about their health.
