Pregnancy and Childbirth

When it comes to the health of a pregnant woman and her unborn baby, only UMMC Women’s Care can offer the advanced diagnosis, treatment, and services of an academic medical center. Obstetric specialists oversee the medical needs of the mom-to-be from the earliest days of pregnancy (prenatal) through delivery and after (postnatal).

Services we offer

Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Maternal-Fetal Specialists

Most women are seen by an obstetrician/gynecologist (OB-GYN), a physician specializing in general women's medical care and of pregnant women. High-risk pregnancies are managed by a compassionate team of maternal-fetal medicine specialists, who work with other UMMC specialists to protect the expectant mother and her unborn child.

Prenatal Classes

Through our partnership with Expecting Plus, we now offer free virtual classes. Topics include pregnancy, labor and delivery, postpartum, parenting and much more.

Comprehensive Newborn Care

Our labor and delivery rooms are located in Wiser Hospital for Women and Infants on the main UMMC campus in Jackson. The newborn medicine program provides comprehensive care for babies delivered at Wiser as well as for those transferred from other hospitals in Mississippi and neighboring states.

After leaving Wiser Hospital, infants are treated at Children’s of Mississippi Hospital in the Blair E. Batson Tower or Kathy and Joe Sanderson Tower.

Lactation Support

Our Lactation Support team provides patient information resources about breastfeeding and a direct phone number to contact them with questions.

Women's Emergency Care

UMMC Women’s Urgent Care, located on the ground floor of Wiser Hospital, provides 24-hour obstetric emergency service for pregnant women experiencing complications or medical issues.
