Having a child become seriously ill or get hurt in an accident is a parent's worst nightmare. Adding to these fears is the worry that you might make the wrong decision regarding where the child needs emergency medical attention.
Children's Emergency Services, the emergency medicine program at Children's of Mississippi and Batson Children's Hospital, assesses and treats children ages 15 and under who are acutely ill or injured. More than 40,000 children annually are cared for at the only medical facility in Mississippi dedicated to the care of sick and injured children.
Head injuries are one of the most common reasons for a trip to the ER, according to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. The injury can be as mild as a bump, bruise or cut or it can be of a more serious nature as a result of a concussion, deep or open wound, fractured skull bone or from internal bleeding and damage to the brain.
Our children's emergency services, including the Col. Harland Sanders Children's Emergency Department and the Selby and Richard McRae Children's Trauma Unit, are accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They are staffed by physicians who are board certified in pediatrics and/or pediatric emergency medicine, and pediatric subspecialists are available for consultation.
At Children’s of Mississippi, our pediatric experts work together to complete a full circle of care for your child.
