Nearly 200 researchers from three states met in the School of Medicine Nov. 2-3 for the American Society for Microbiology South Central Branch meeting. Hosted by UMMC for the first time since 2002, the meeting featured talks from the national organization’s CEO and faculty and trainees, who presented their research in the microbial sciences. Annual awards ceremony recognizes research achievements

The Office of Research hosted its annual Excellence in Research Awards Oct. 24 to recognize faculty members for their success in gaining outside funding. The 24 medallion recipients contributed to UMMC’s 314 grants and awards received during fiscal year 2018.

Addiction psychiatrist expanding treatment for opioid use disorder

UMMC’s addiction program has reached a milestone. New faculty member Dr. Saurabh Bhardwaj, an addiction psychiatrist, is the Medical Center’s first provider to offer medication-assisted treatment, or MAT, for those coping with opioid use disorder.

JoJo Dodd and Joe Pongetti now wear blue UMMC scrubs as M1s, but the two were among those donning the tan fur suit of Mississippi State University’s mascot, Bully, during their undergraduate days.
