Welcome to the University of Mississippi Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program! We are the chief residents for the 2020-21 academic year.
While we are from all walks of life, different parts of the nation, and have different personalities, we share one big thing in common – we chose Jackson, Mississippi, and UMMC to be our home and place of growth for this pivotal stage of our careers. And, more importantly, we are so glad we did! We are excited to have the opportunity to serve our residents, students, and help our faculty in continuing to grow our program over this year. Jackson has been a wonderful place for us to place roots during this time of training. We've bought homes, found spouses, and started families. We have enjoyed the countless activities this city has to offer, including music festivals, sports, tremendous food, and the great outdoors. While we may not be from here, the warm and welcoming people of Mississippi have helped to make this place our home. We hope you will feel the same way, too. We are confident in the training we have received and are sure that at the end of your three years of training, you will be able to practice anywhere in the country, or even the world, fully capable of diagnosing and managing any patient that you encounter. Even so, our program leadership is always looking for ways to improve our program based on the feedback of our residents. This supportive and open mindset has resulted in the creation of an ultrasound curriculum, procedure team, hospitalist rotation, clinician educator track, health disparities curriculum, and a revamping of our primary care track, all in just the last two years. During your training, we promise you will not be alone. One thing that remains at the core of our program is a sense of community and family. Whether it is at our program events throughout the year or residents hanging out outside of work, we enjoy spending time with and supporting one another in and out of the hospital.
This upcoming year promises to be like no other, particularly within healthcare. During this time, there is no other program we would rather be affiliated with than UMMC. While it has always been important, being a part of a program that is built on love, trust, and support is more critical now than ever before. We are thrilled that you are considering our program for your training in Internal Medicine. We look forward to meeting you and cannot wait for you to be a part of our family. - Becky, Fowler, Meredith, and Lucas
